envelopes for wedding invitations

It is traditional when putting together wedding invitations to use both an inner and an outer envelope. In this article, I will discuss the different procedures with each envelope.

envelopes wedding invitations
The outer envelope of a wedding invitation is the one that will actually take a stamp and be sent in the mail. It will therefore have the full mailing address of the person to whom it is being address. Note that, except for couples, separate adults should each receive their own wedding invitation and their own outer envelope. For instance, if you are addressing it to two sisters living together, each should get her own envelope.

On the front envelope, you should put the names of all people you intend to invite except minor children. Minor children are not listed on the outer envelope at all (don't worry; you'll get to them on the inner envelope). The name on the front envelope should be the person's formal title, not simply the first name. For example, the title should be addressed to "Mr. John Smith", not simply "John Smith".

I am always amazed at the wonderful color combinations our customers come up with for their wedding invitations. Some of them reflect the advice of well known wedding experts but many others reflect their own individual style and panache. Here are our latest "hot" combinations for the upcoming wedding season:

1. Flame Orange, Rose Pink and Lemon Yellow: This was a stunner of a combination. Orange and pink has been popular for 3 years now and shows no sign of abating but the added touch of yellow really made this invitation a stand out. The bride chose a bright flame orange pocket folder and added a rose pink insert to be glued over the center and under the white invitation card. She then chose a lemon yellow double- faced satin ribbon to tie around the pocket folder. Gorgeous effect.
2. Black and Blue: Black is our most popular request by far. And this year many brides are choosing a blue insert and blue ribbons as an accent color. Lagoon blue adds a touch of beauty to the formal sophistication of black.
 3. Sapphire and Silver: The blues are still coming on strong and sapphire is turning out to be a popular color this year especially when combined with silver. We are getting many requests for sapphire pocket folders with silver inserts and silver ribbon accents.
4. Bronze and Gold: I love our brides who think ahead and we are already getting fall invitation orders. By far the most popular is the bronze pocket folder with a gold insert card and an "old" gold ribbon. It makes a lovely rich, burnished combination for fall and early winter weddings.

Do it Yourself Wedding Invitations

After setting the wedding date and deciding on the place where you want to get married, another wedding detail to deal with is the wedding invitation. Surely, you must want something that is unique and personal. You can find many sources online or you can try going to a printing company that does this sort of thing. You can also order wedding invitation catalogues, or you may find inspiration in your local bookstore. If you are on a tight budget, though, do-it-yourself wedding invitations may work for you perfectly.

Before you proceed with any of the above, you need to get acquainted first with some basic printing terms. Engraving is, perhaps, one of the most commonly used word that you can encounter while searching for wedding invitations. It is a printing style which utilizes metal plates to stamp the paper with so that the letters rise up, giving an embossed, elegant, look. Thermography is another popular term. Thermography is like engraving, too, in that it results to raised letters as well. However, instead of using metal plates, heat is used to come up with the desired effect. Letterpress, on the other hand employs the use of a stamping die that gives the paper an old-fashioned look when pressed against the paper. The most common type of printing is offset printing or flat printing. As its name suggests, the letters are not raised at all, and if you are going to print your wedding invitations at home, this is the type of printing that you will be using.

Creating professionally looking wedding invitations yourself is possible. With an aid of a computer, a good quality printer, a word processor, and elegant paper, you can print your own invitations. Besides being able to save a lot, you also can put your creativity at work.

When deciding on a particular design to use for your wedding invites, as much as possible, choose something that is appropriate to the theme or setting of your wedding. If you are planning a beach wedding, for instance, an engraved invitation on white or ecru paper will not be suitable. At the same time, it may lead your invited guests to think that it's going to be a long gown or coat-and-tie affair, when actually it is not.

Before printing multiple copies, proofread your work first so you can be sure you have all the details correctly spelled.
Do it yourself wedding invitations may be a lot cheaper than ready-made invitations, but they still get the same message across --- especially if you send them out ahead of time.

Making Red Wedding Invitations

Wedding invitations set the tone for the wedding and fill guests with anticipation. Here are some design and cost-saving ideas for homemade invites.

Brides (and grooms) should consider making their own wedding invitations to cut down costs, add a personal touch, and exercise some creativity. Here are some ideas and guidelines for Red wedding invitations:

Keep the Red Wedding Invitation Design Simple
Red Wedding Invitations
The more complicated the design and construction, the longer it will take to make, the greater chance of something going wrong, and the higher the potential for stress. Keep in mind that a simple design can look as elegant as a complicated one.

There are a few options when it comes to design. The first and most simple option is to print a design on some cardstock and put it in an envelope. Other options could involve layering two or three different types of decorative paper, card or transparent paper and adding embellishments such as ribbon, ornaments or stamps.

Depending on how much information needs to be included in the Red invitation, a small folder could be assembled, with inserts including the invite, accommodation options and directions to the venue. The folder could then be bound with ribbon or twine and held together with a wax seal. A visit to a local art and craft store should provide inspiration and material ideas.

Wedding Invitation Ideas -- Creating a Design
Red Wedding Invitation
The first thing to do before creating a design is to decide on a theme and choose which size the invites will be. The envelope size should also be considered, as well as the cost of postage – anything too heavy or oddly shaped will incur an extra fee. Some common envelope sizes are DL (1/3 A4), C6 (half A4) and a 13 cm square. Make sure the invite fits easily into the envelope!

Once a theme has been chosen it will be easier to pick the elements of the invite. Usually, the theme will emulate the theme of the wedding, be it vintage, country, fairytale or ‘by the seaside’. Think of a motif or images that describe the bride and groom as a couple, or choose tried and true romantic images such as hearts, foliage designs or love birds. Using a photo or illustrated drawing of the bride and groom is also a popular idea.

Once an idea has been formed, start searching the internet for images that suit the theme. If the design is going to be created in Photoshop, look for free Photoshop brushes – there are literally thousands of designs and images that will make the design process wonderfully easy! Next, search for free fonts that suit the invite theme and download them to the font folder on the computer.

Once all the elements of the design have been found, take time to get the wording of the invites right (deciding what traditions and etiquette will be followed) and arrange images in an eye-catching way. Keep the colour theme simple (and matching) and don’t overcrowd the page.

Printing Options and Red Bridal Invitation Construction
Red Wedding Invitation cards
Once the design is finished, it’s time to decide where the job will be printed. Options include home printing (providing the bride and groom own or have access to a printer), outsourcing to a specialist printing company or superstore such as Officeworks, or finding an online printing company that delivers.

Some other considerations might include the type of paper the invites will be printed on, the volume of invitations to be printed, and the quality of colour which the various printers can produce.

If home printing is the most convenient option, one cost saving tip is to buy some cardstock (found in stationary, art or newsagency stores) in A3 size, then use a craft knife, metal ruler and cutting mat to cut the invitations to size.

Cost Comparison -- DIY or Outsource?
Red Wedding Invitation card
As fun as the process of invitation making might be, it’s also wise to shop around for some quotes to have the invitation professionally made. Once professional quotes have been obtained, calculate the total cost of making them at home, including card and paper, accessories, ink (or printing costs) and envelopes. Will the end product be cost efficient enough to be worth the effort?

If so, then prepare for long hours of hard work and potentially a few frustrations. On the plus side, invitation making is a good way for the bride and groom to spend some time together pre-wedding and it gives both the chance to offer input into the design. If the design has been well thought out, then the end result will be an invitation that the couple will be proud of.
